Anti-Huntingtin Protein Recom

Huntingtin is a large, ubiquitously expressed protein encoded by the HTT gene, with its most notable role being in the neurodegenerative disorder Huntington's disease (HD). The full-length huntingtin protein plays a crucial role in cellular functions such as vesicle trafficking, transcription regulation, and cytoskeletal dynamics. However, in individuals with Huntington's disease, an expansion of CAG repeats in the HTT gene leads to the production of a mutated form of huntingtin with an abnormally long polyglutamine tract. This mutant huntingtin aggregates and forms toxic inclusions within neurons, particularly in the basal ganglia, leading to neuronal dysfunction, cell death, and the characteristic motor, cognitive, and psychiatric symptoms of HD. Research into huntingtin focuses on understanding its normal cellular functions, the pathogenic mechanisms underlying HD, and potential therapeutic strategies to mitigate or reverse the effects of the mutant protein.
