IP-10, also known as Interferon Gamma-Inducible Protein 10 (CXCL10), is a chemokine that plays a critical role in the immune response, particularly in the recruitment of immune cells such as T cells and natural killer (NK) cells to sites of inflammation or infection. It is induced by interferon-gamma (IFN-γ) and is part of the CXC chemokine family. IP-10 is involved in promoting Th1-type immune responses, which are essential for combating viral infections and certain intracellular pathogens. Its dysregulation has been linked to several inflammatory and autoimmune conditions, including rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, and multiple sclerosis, as well as viral infections like HIV and hepatitis.
