Ammonium carbonate may be employed in the preparation of 3,4-dihydropyrimidin-2(1 H )-one and 1,4-dihydropyridine derivatives, via Biginelli and Hantzsch reactions. It can also be actively used as buffer in the separation, detection, and identification of the peptide fragments generated in the tryptic digests of ovalbumin and serum albumin, via size exclusion liquid chromatography and reverse phase liquid chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry.
