HEPES is a bipolar ion buffer and is widely recognized as one of the best universal buffers, especially in cell biology, biochemistry, and biological research. HEPES is one of the Good 'buffers that does not form significant complexes with most metal ions. This property makes it suitable as a non coordinating buffer in metal ion solutions
