OG 488 Azide, (also known as Oregon Green® 488 Azide or 2',7'-Difluorocarboxyfluorescein Azide, 6-isomer) is a bright, green-fluorescent probe that reacts with terminal alkynes via a copper-catalyzed click reaction (CuAAC). It also reacts with strained cyclooctyne via a copper-free “click chemistry” reaction to form a stable triazole and does not require Cu-catalyst or elevated temperatures.The fluorinated carboxyfluoresceins have higher photostability and ionize at a lower pH (pKa 4.8) than fluorescein (pKa 6.5), which makes them superior fluorescent dyes for use as reporter molecules in biological systems. The absorption and emission of OG 488 dye are virtually identical to widely used fluorescein dyes. The combination of higher photostability, lower pKa, and excitation ideally suited to the 488 nm laser line makes OG 488 dye an ideal replacements for the widely used fluorescein dye.OG 488 Azide is structurally identical to Oregon Green® 488 Azide (Oregon Green® 6-Carboxamido-(6-Azidohexanyl), Triethylammonium Salt), 6-isomer, sold by Thermo Fisher Scientific, and can be used as cost efficient alternative.Oregon Green® is a registered trademark of Thermo Fisher Scientific.
