描述	Iberotoxin is a highly selective and potent blocker of the MaxiK (high conductance Ca²⁺ activated K⁺ channels) that does not affect other types of voltage-dependent K⁺ channels. Because of iberiotoxin's strong ability to block Ca²⁺ activated K⁺ channels, in mammalian motor nerve terminals the compound can induce dihydropyridine sensitive release of ACh. In rat organotypic dorsal striatal slices iberiotoxin and margatoxin were both observed to induce production of c-fos like mRNA and protein. Iberiotoxin is an inhibitor of MaxiKα.
