To approximate the flow field characteristics of the test duct to those of a
full-scale ASD, an adjustable valve is installed at the end of the test duct.
By changing the angle of the valve, equivalent airflow resistance is
generated within the duct end. Equivalent airflow resistance refers to the
airflow resistance generated by the remaining structure of the full-scale
duct (in the x-axis direction) after subtracting the section of the test duct
used in this study.
According to the function of different duct regions, the test duct is
divided into the main duct, static pressure chamber, and bent duct, as
shown in Fig. 2(c). A total of 32 sampling points are arranged on
different surfaces of the test duct as shown in Fig. 2(a). Specifically,
sampling points 1~6–1 and 1~6–2 are located on the bottom (m-floor)
and vertical (m-wall) surfaces of the main duct; sampling points 1~6–3
and 1~6–4 are located on the vertical (s-wall) and the bottom (s-floor)
surfaces of the static pressure chamber; and sampling points b-1~8 are
located on the bottom surface (b-floor) of the bent duct. An aluminum
foil tape (AFT) of 0.1 × 0.1 m2 is used to collect deposited dust on each
point. The weight of sampling is measured using an analytical balance
(FB224ACE) with a precision of 0.0001 g, as shown in Fig. 3(d).
In actual environments, many parameters affect particle deposition
in ducts. Selecting appropriate experimental parameters is the first step
to understanding particle deposition patterns within train ducts.
Combining previous studies [9,16,19] and the operational characteris-
tics of high-speed trains, airflow rate (velocity), absolute humidity,
particle size, and concentration are selected as the basic variables. Due
