In modern anaesthesia, it is a muscle relaxant or aminosteroid non-depolarizing neuromuscular blocker. During surgery or mechanical ventilation, it is used to facilitate endotracheal intubation and to provide skeletal muscle relaxation. Introduced in 1994, rocuronium has rapid onset, and intermediate duration of action. Its marketed names are Zemuron( United States) and Esmeron(most other countries).
