Cathepsin B, a cysteine histone enzyme belonging to the cysteine protease family, is an intracellular enzyme that is mainly found in cellular lysosomes. It is also secreted into the peripheral microenvironment of the cell membrane or extracellularly under pathological conditions. Histone B consists of a dimer composed of a heavy chain and a light chain with carboxypeptidase and endopeptidase activities.
